Questions to Ask

Why hire a residential interior designer for your project?

When you purchased your home, the builder designed the interior in a generic style that followed the pattern of other homes in your community. As a residential interior designer, who is trained to review your floor plans with a critical eye; we are able to analyze space utilization, traffic patterns and functionality. We create your interior to reflect the “uniqueness of you”, giving your home your own personality

When considering home interior designs, what questions should you consider?
  • What kind of atmosphere do I want to convey – formal or casual?
  • Are there any structural chances needed to accomplish my goals?
  • Who will be utilizing the space and are there special needs to consider?
  • Do I have a planned budget and timeline for the works completion?

Many residential interior designers suggest you keep a collective “idea” book on objects that inspire you. Photos, postcards and magazine pictures can reflect your aesthetic and functional criteria for the project.

What expense should you encounter when an interior design consults on your project?

Interior Design Tips

Tip # 1: Get Inspired

Find an object; a picture, pillow, or vase that expresses the mood or style you want your room to convey. Is it formal, contemporary, casual? Look for items you already have that might compliment that design style.

Tip # 2: Foundation First

Like all great design, foundation is fundamental. Purchase the largest item first to ground your room. A rug is a perfect start. Let your inspiration piece assist you in the design of your rug. Your color scheme can be pulled from secondary and tertiary colors from the rug and added to your room.

Tip # 3: Fabrics

Your fabric pattern and design will be dictated by the rug selected. In example, a formal rug will have a medallion in the center with a floral pattern around it. For a formal rug design, use smooth-to-the-touch fabrics like silk or damask. A casual rug design will display a variety of items like palmettes, roundels or a geometric design in the center field. For a casual design the sky is the limit when it comes to fabric selection; cotton, denim, leather, etc. Keep in mind that variety in design and pattern size adds interest.

Tip # 4: Walls

Don’t forget that there are at least six basic walls in a room; four vertical walls and a floor and ceiling. Color on walls pull a room together and provides an effective illusion. In example, if you want two small rooms to look as though they are one, paint both rooms the same color. This is also true conversely. If one large room is being used for two different purposes, paint each area a different color and the spaces will immediately be divided within their own areas. Painting a room produces a dramatic visual effect and doesn’t put a dent in your budget.

Tip # 5: Accessorize

When it come to accessorizing; use the K.I.S.S. method. Keep It Sweet and Simple. Try to accessorize with items that serve a function; baskets that hold reading material, a tea serving set that is actually used. If it doesn’t serve a purpose in the room – don’t add it. Remember to keep your collections together. Don’t fall in to the trap of accessory overload.
